Next week...

Exciting news! 

Next week, Mrs Long is bringing her tortoises in to Nursery. The children will learn all about taking care of them and they will have the opportunity to touch them and ask any questions they may have.

We are now in the second half of the spring term.

This term we have been following the children's interests, which lead us to reading 'The Gingerbread Man'. The children then loved making gingerbread men in nursery! Following this, we seem to have had a food based theme.

Today (04.03.15), Tesco came in to visit us as part of their Farm to Fork initiative. The children learnt all about making different types of  bread and also got to taste some! Tesco have left us with some bread dough which the children have been told will keep rising - we took a photo before so that we can compare it to the 'after' shot. Tesco also made pizzas with us! The children had several topping choices and made all of the pizza themselves including putting the sauce on the based and the cheese. We can't tell you how much the children loved doing it - and so did we! Furthermore, the lovely ladies from Tesco commented on how well behaved, well mannered and generally lovely the children were.

This term we will continue to follow the children's interests, by having themed weeks, incorporating them into our enhanced planning or in many other creative ways! 

PE is still on a Friday. Last term we did gymnastics, this term we have progressed to Ball Skills. The children will be keeping their shoes on so please wear trainers/plimsoles.

Please remember, the children go outside in ALL weathers - they must bring appropriate clothing.

Spring Term!

Hello,

Spring term is upon us...

We hope that you had a wonderful festive season.

We wanted to say a HUGE thanks for your support with our winter fair. It was a huge success and was a lovely day for all. So we are going to do it again next year, with a request of more cakes and biscuits and a bit more space. Moreover, we made a great amount of money for Foundation which was then matched by a very generous parent so our total was over £700! Thank you again :) 

Did you know that we do Spanish every week? The children are  loving it! So far we have learnt to say hello, goodbye, count to 5, a few colours, to say "I like" and match this with animals/colours etc and now we are learning to say 'My name is...' (me llamo for those who like to join in at home!). Next half term we are going to learn more about our focus country; Spain. We will try some Spanish food, listen to Spanish music, speak Spanish and lots more!

PE is now on Fridays. Please bring your child in suitable clothing, with socks and shoes that are easy to take off (no tights!) and please no earrings/jewellery. We are working with Mr Grey on gymnastics.

Keeping you up to date!

The children were so excited to come into nursery on Monday to find it had been decorated for Christmas! 

We have been busy for the last couple of weeks preparing for our Nativity... you are in for a real treat - please remember to bring your ticket with you. 

We are still challenging the children with their name writing and appreciate the support at home. 

Lots of the children are learning letters and sounds in phonics, here's a little something to help you learn the actions for supporting at home...

Group 1

s           Weave hand in an s shape, like a snake, and say ssssss

a           Wiggle fingers above elbow as if ants crawling on you and say a, a, a.

t            Turn head from side to side as if watching tennis and say t, t, t.

i            Pretend to be a mouse by wriggling fingers at end of noise and squeak i, i, i.

p           Pretend to puff out candles and say p, p, p.

n           Make a noise, as if you are a plane – hold arms out and say nnnnnn.

In phonics it is important to remember to use soft sounds, so when saying the sound that 'S' makes, say 'ssss' instead of 'suh'

Hello!

We are now in Autumn term 2. This has brought us some excitement as the children now do Commando Joe on a Thursday. This involves fun and fitness and the children are loving it! We are also in the run up to Christmas... so we have started our singing practice for our Christmas performance 'A Wriggly Nativity (with an icy surprise!)'. The children are already sounding beautiful - we know you'll love it.

Name Writing Challenge
We are challenging the children to write their name by the end of this term. This involves the correct formation and pencil grip. We are practising at Nursery and we would love it if you could also support at home. The children may get a little treat if they hit this target...

Winter Fair Workshop
Calling all keyholders... do you have any old spare (unused) keys that you could donate to us for a little Christmas activity? Please bring them into Nursery if you do.
We would love it if you could join us for our workshop on Wednesday 10th December 2:00-3:00pm.

Welcome back!

Hello and welcome back to nursery!

We hope you had a brilliant summer. The children have settled back into nursery well and the new hippos are adapting to full time nursery wonderfully.

This term our topic will be 'Journeys' - last term the children were eager to learn about trains, aeroplanes, seaside... so we thought this topic would include all of their interests.

An update on some of the changes...

• Miss Duckmanton and Mrs Basavci are now part of the nursery staff team doing a job share, replacing Mrs Garratt who now works in reception. Miss Duckmanton works on a Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Basavci Wednesday - Friday.
• We no longer have 'Pride Vine' as a display and home-school link. We have now replaced this with an 'I like' wall ('Me gusta' in Spanish). This is to enable you as parents and carers to write next to your child's photo anything that they like, are interested in, good at etc and we can then use this in our planning and assessment.
• The children will be doing Spanish every week with Senora Cooke - our base country is Spain so we will be learning about the language and culture.
